Title: Stubborn Love

Author: Wendy Owens

Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

Summary:

Even a broken heart has trouble resisting a Stubborn Love.

Emmie Hayes loved the beautiful Ashton Stirling deeply; nobody could deny that. She had given him her youth, and all he gave in return was misery and pain. She was ready for a new beginning, but Ashton wasn’t about to let her go so easily, even if it meant destroying both their lives in the process.

Three years later Emmie convinces herself she is ready to leave all of that heartbreak in the past and find a little piece of normal for herself. She heads to New York City to pick up where she left off, determined to finish art school. Emmie is determined to focus on school and not let anything distract her, but life has a way of throwing curveballs.

Paige, Emmie’s new roommate, brings Colin Bennett into her life. His smoldering eyes and lean muscular body are difficult for any girl to ignore. Only thing is, Emmie isn’t any girl. Her past makes her resistant to his charms. Colin isn’t one to give up easily, and just when he thinks he may have found a way to her stubborn heart, her tragic history may have found a way to tear them apart.

MY REVIEW (Colleen)

3 STARS

Stubborn Love was a good – not great – book. I liked it but I found that it was not that memorable. Actually, when it came time to write my review I had to go back a do a little refresher on the characters.

I wish I could say that I liked the character of Clementine aka Emmie. She had a rough, damaging experience with her husband’s suicide and I really felt for the character. That being said, I felt that there was too much time spent on her dwelling in the past and her virtual pit of despair and fright of living her life. There was potential with this character that was not fully realized. I would have loved to have seen her find her backbone and rediscover herself. There was ample opportunity for her to stop blaming herself and being afraid of love again. I felt that she never really did.

Colin should be nominated for sainthood for dealing with Emmie’s problems and still pursuing her. He was a good, solid character and well written. I felt like he went above and beyond to make Emmie realize what was right in front of her. He was a great guy and I was left feeling he deserved better then her.

Paige was, by far, my favorite character in the entire book. She was strong, sassy, fun, independent, loyal and a loving friend. I would love to read a book just about her. There is potential for a great story here!

I would recommend this book for a beach read or someone looking for a light, easy read. It was a good, solid effort for a book but Emmie was just not the type of character I enjoy.
