Oh my! Where do I start? This book…..I am still processing it. It tackles a very sensitive subject – suicide. But not just suicide, teenage suicide. Tijan deals with it beautifully. This book is heartbreaking and gut wrenching! It’s the story of Mackenzie who has to start her senior year at a new high school, just months after her twin sister commits suicide.
The story is about family and friends. It is really about the falling apart of a family and then the putting back together of that family. The letting go of old friends and making new friends who didn’t know her sister. The building of a new love relationship. All rolled into one amazing book!
Suicide is a very difficult subject to discuss, but Tijan does it amazingly. The fact Mackenzie goes from hating hearing her sisters voice in her head to missing it when she starts to heal is a true testament to the perfect writing of the healing that takes place.
Believe it or not, this is really not that sad of a book. It is more of an inspirational book, than sob story. If you are looking for a book that will move you, this is it!!!!
